The Crown tells the inside story of 2 of the most famous addresses in the world – Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street – and the intrigues, love lives and machinations behind the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th century. 2 houses, 2 courts, 1 crown.
The Crown has a tremendous cast and excellent production values. While it may take some historical liberties, it also delivers an engaging narrative.
8. Lucifer

Charming comedy Never Have I Ever is inspired by creator Mindy Kaling's own early life and stars newcomer Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as an overachieving high school sophomore. She's perfect in the lead role, supported by a tremendous ensemble cast. The series has so much heart you'll likely fall in love with it from the very first scene.
12. Ozark
Desperate times call for family unity. Now family night means stacking millions in drug cash inside a cabin's walls.

23. Stranger Things
When a young boy vanishes, a small town uncovers a mystery involving secret experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one strange little girl.
It's rare to see a show so lovingly dedicated to the 80s. Often TV shows, movies and books lean on nostalgia without weaving them into the narrative in any meaningful way. That's far from the case in Stranger Things. The Duffer Brothers' sci-fi/thriller/horror isn't just a love letter, it stands alone as one of the greatest television shows today, thanks to its talented and diverse cast and its gripping story arc.
24. Black Mirror
Black Mirror is an anthology series exploring a twisted, high-tech multiverse where humanity's greatest innovations and darkest instincts collide.
Black Mirror episodes are often mind-bending and even terrifying, showcasing situations where technology goes too far. This may not be a show that's particularly fun to watch, but it's gripping and provocative, which should be enough to keep you glued to the screen.
25. Bodies (2023)

26. Rick and Morty
Rick is a mentally unbalanced but scientifically gifted old man who has recently reconnected with his family. He spends most of his time involving his young grandson Morty in dangerous, outlandish adventures throughout space and alternate universes. Compounded with Morty's already unstable family life, these events cause Morty much distress at home and school.
Rick and Morty rockets between risky and gut-busting hilarity to some surprisingly meaningful and touching life lessons (though Rick has a habit of shooting down anything hopeful).
27. Orange Is the New Black
Based on the bestselling memoir by Piper Kerman, Orange Is the New Black centres on Piper Chapman, an upper middle class woman who is sentenced to a minimum security prison for a crime she committed while younger. Kerman quickly makes friends and foes as we see the diverse range of inmates and lives inside the prison.
It is a thought-provoking, funny and evocative show about life in a women's prison. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll vaguely wonder about committing a minor crime so you too can go to prison and write about it.
28. BoJack Horseman
BoJack Horseman focuses on the most beloved sitcom humanoid horse of the 90s, 20 years later. He's a curmudgeon with a heart of...not quite gold...but something like gold.
Imagine every live-action character Will Arnett has ever played blended together in an anthropomorphic horse and you have BoJack Horseman. This story of a washed-up equine actor seemed at first to be Netflix's Family Guy or American Dad. However, it's so much more than that. Unlike most sitcoms or cartoons, Bojack's character actually goes through a lot of growth. It's not exactly what you would expect from a bizarre comedy about talking animals, but that's what you get with BoJack.
29. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off
Scott Pilgrim meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers, only to find out her 7 evil exes stand in the way of their love.
While the twist at the start might confuse fans of the comic and the movie, stick with this anime version, as this new path it travels is well worth following.
30. After Life
Created, produced and directed by Ricky Gervais, who also stars, After Life follows a man who decides to do and say whatever he wants following his wife's death. As you might expect, this ends up being trickier than he envisioned.
The series seamlessly switches from dark comedy to moving drama at a moment's notice, offering a thoughtful exploration of grief, depression and resilience. It also boasts some wonderful performances, especially from Gervais himself.
31. Boy Swallows Universe
Based on the bestselling novel and set in 1980s Brisbane, a precocious boy and his selectively mute brother embark on a suburban odyssey of love, redemption and retribution after their family is torn apart by a drug lord.
An epic coming-of-age story, Boy Swallows Universe blends the magic and innocence of youth with the brutal reality of the adult world.
32. Narcos
Raw and gritty, this acclaimed series chronicles the real-life stories of the drug kingpins of the late 1980s. At the same time, it focuses on the efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict. The first 2 seasons follow the infamous Pablo Escobar, who made billions from the production and sale of cocaine. Season 3, meanwhile, picks up after the fall of the kingpin and sees the DEA take on the Cali Cartel.
Narcos doesn't give you too many characters to root for, but it's definitely addictive and illuminating, even if you're already familiar with much of the real life stories. The series is stylish and action-packed, with top-notch performances and intense storytelling. Not recommended for the faint of heart.
33. The Good Place
Eleanor Shellstrop is an average woman who awakens to the shocking realisation that her life on Earth has ended. Now in the afterlife, Eleanor begins to recognise that her behaviour in life wasn't particularly great. But what exactly does it mean to be a "good" or "bad" person?
The Good Place is a charming comedy about the afterlife. It's hilarious and lively, it's weird and subversive, it's well-written and brilliantly casted. You'll be hooked from episode 1.
34. Heartstopper
Teens Charlie and Nick discover their unlikely friendship might be something more as they navigate school and young love in this coming-of-age series.
In the mood for a wholesome romance? Heartstopper is unbearably cute and incredibly uplifting, to the point where it may even restore your faith in humanity.

A notorious gang in 1919 Birmingham, England, is led by the fierce Tommy Shelby, a crime boss set on moving up in the world no matter the cost. A veteran Irish lawman is called in to bring them down. As a result, blood will be shed.
With excellent production values, solid acting and an intriguing plot, Peaky Blinders is a period drama you don't want to miss.
36. The Sandman
After years of imprisonment, Morpheus – the King of Dreams – embarks on a journey across worlds to find what was stolen from him and restore his power.
An adaptation of the comic book series written by Neil Gaiman, The Sandman is gorgeous to look at, with excellent visual effects and committed performances. It's the perfect fantasy series to get lost in.
37. Top Boy
2 London drug dealers ply their lucrative trade at a public housing estate in East London.
Top Boy is thrilling, tense and it works as not only a taut drama, but accurate social commentary as well.
38. Heartbreak High (2022)
A fresh look at Hartley High over 20 years on. With her new friends – outsiders Quinni and Darren – Amerie must repair her reputation, while navigating love, sex and heartbreak.
Reboots are all the rage nowadays, but we're happy to report that Heartbreak High is a good one. Vibrant and funny, the series will quickly make its way into viewers' hearts. If you're a fan of Sex Education, even better.

42. The Brothers Sun
The Brothers Sun follows Charles Sun, a Taipei gangster who's settled into his life as a ruthless killer, but must go to LA to protect his mother and younger brother after his father was shot by a mysterious assassin.
A mix of comedy, action and drama, at the heart of The Brothers Sun is the dilemma of duty to family vs following your personal dreams. Michelle Yeoh’s presence lights up every scene she is in, plus the series has unearthed some fresh talent too.
43. The Lying Life of Adults
Based on the novel by Elena Ferrante and set in 1990s Naples, brash and bold Aunt Vittoria helps her sheltered niece experience a different side of the city, upsetting the teen's strict parents.
