Amazon Prime Video is about to get a major overhaul.

When a streaming service announces incoming changes, it usually means you're about to get slugged with higher fees.

It was therefore with some trepidation that we opened Amazon's latest press release about an "important update" coming to Prime Video.

Welp, turns out we needn't have worried.

The update is actually something good and its coming to all Amazon Prime Video customers worldwide.

In short, Amazon is revamping the existing service with a new-look user interface and stacks of new features. Hurrah!

Here are the main changes you need to know about:

  • A content-forward navigation bar: The new UI provides faster access to Prime Video's various categories, including active add-on subscriptions such as Hayu and Paramount+. Additionally, a brand new "Prime" destination allows users to explore a variety of content available at no additional cost with a Prime Membership.
  • Streamlining add-on subscriptions: Users can now easily browse, sign up for and manage the 19 add-on subscriptions available on Prime Video via the "Subscriptions" category in the revitalized navigation bar.
  • Picture not described

  • Personalized recommendations: The new "Made for You" collections group titles that align with users' interests, simplifying the process of finding what to watch. Content can also be browsed through the "Top 10 in Australia" and "Trending Show" collections, with extra clarity on whether the film or series is available through Prime or an add-on subscription.
  • Superior UI: Prime Video's user interface now appears smoother and more polished. New visual enhancements include title card animations and dissolve transitions between pages. The UI has been carefully engineered to work across all devices, both old and new.

The above won't entirely make up for the recent intrusion of advertisements, but at least it's something.

You can expect the aforementioned enhancements to appear on your screens in the coming weeks. If you're using an app instead of a browser, keep an eye out for a software update.
