When is Black Friday 2024?

Black Friday 2024 will take place on 29 November. Keep an eye out for sales to continue on until 02 December, which is Cyber Monday. PS4 and PS5 deals should be made available in the week or so leading up to Black Friday.

Which PS4 should I buy this Black Friday?

Since launching the original PS4 back in 2013, Sony has introduced a few variations of its popular console into the market. Currently, the two main models are the PS4 Slim and the PS4 Pro, with the vanilla PS4 still available from select retailers but mostly phased out in favour of the Slim.

As such, the PS4 Slim is the console suitable for most people. Like the name suggests, it's smaller and thinner than the original PS4, plus it adds support for 5GHz Wi-Fi networks – something the launch PS4 did not have. It comes in both 500GB and 1TB variants, though it's worth mentioning that the PS4 now supports external hard drives, so you can purchase a separate USB hard drive if you find yourself running out of space.

The PS4 Pro is geared towards two main audiences: people with 4K TVs and those who simply want the best performance out of their Sony console. With its enhanced hardware, it's able to run games at higher resolutions and take advantage of the sharper clarity of a 4K TV as well as deliver higher framerates and smoother performance than is possible on a regular PS4 or PS4 Slim.

Black Friday sales: PS4 vs PS5

The main reasons to consider purchasing a PS5 over a PS4 this Black Friday is to enjoy the latest next-gen functionality that the PS5 offers, from improved graphics to advanced haptic feedback.

For now, the majority of games being made for the PS5 are also available to be played on the PS4, but this trend is predictably beginning to change with more and more PS5-exclusive games being produced.

There's also the small matter of the PS5 being one of the most difficult-to-acquire products around. It's generally necessary to look to the reseller market to purchase a PS5, meaning you'll be paying in excess of the product's recommended retail price. For more information, check out our complete PS5 buying guide.

If you're tossing up between going for the PS4 or the PS5, we'd advise sticking with the PS4 for now and waiting until the PS5 is more readily-available.
