Some places may give you a bit of leeway on when you can redeem your freebie, while some will require that you use it on your actual birthday.
For most of these retailers, you need to be registered in the store's database and have a rewards account with them, so keep that in mind when looking through our list of 50+ stores.
You'll generally need to have joined before your birthday in order to receive a freebie, so set a reminder a week before your birthday and sign up for all the freebies that take your fancy.
Before you can receive free stuff on your birthday from these retail stores, you normally have to sign up for the newsletter or join the loyalty program. Otherwise, the store has no way of knowing when your birthday is.
While this means receiving emails with exclusive offers, sale information and product launches, you will be eligible to receive whatever birthday gift is on offer. Signing up may also give you a one-time discount voucher to use on your first purchase.
However, with some retailers, birthday gifts are based on how much you spend at the store during the year and what tier of the loyalty program you are at.
What type of free stuff can I get on my birthday?
Birthday rewards range greatly across retailers and include:
Gift vouchers. Stores give out gift vouchers for their customers to use toward their next purchase. Sometimes there are restrictions on the voucher, such as it can only be used during your birthday month, or you must spend a minimum amount.
Bonus loyalty points. If you are a frequent shopper, you will be earning points every time you make a purchase. Bonus points can help to get you toward earning the next reward offered by the store.
Discount promo codes. Watch out for emails on your birthday as one might contain a special discount code to use on your birthday or during your birthday month.
