How to watch NHL live in Australia

To get your ice hockey fix in Australia, you need access to ESPN.

You can access ESPN to watch NHL via a subscription to Foxtel iQ, Foxtel Now or Kayo.

You're also able to get EPSN as a channel on Fetch TV.

You can also access games through the ESPN app and website for no additional fee if you are already a Foxtel iQ or Fetch customer. That option does not apply to Kayo customers.

ESPN will screen an average of 3 regular season games live per week, plus extensive coverage of the playoffs and conference finals and every game of the Stanley Cup live.

For the 2023/24 season, NHL.TV also again available in Australia to watch NHL.

Watch NHL on Foxtel Now and Foxtel iQ

Both Foxtel Now and Foxtel iQ have ESPN, so you can watch the NHL via either of those.

ESPN is part of the Sport pack on Foxtel Now, but you also need the base Essentials pack to gain access to it to watch NHL. The total cost is $29 a month. A 10-day free trial is available for new customers. Foxtel Now offers entertainment programming alongside access to sport, so keep that in mind before deciding which package you want to get.

Foxtel Now is compatible with computers, smartphones and tablets, Sony Android TVs, Samsung, Hisense and LG smart TVs, Telstra TV, Foxtel Now box, Chromecast, PS3 and PS4.

Meanwhile for Foxtel iQ, ESPN is part of the Sports HD Pack, which costs a minimum of $100 as you also have to have the base Plus pack bundled with it. There is no free trial offered for Foxtel iQ.

If you find yourself out and about when the NHL is on, you can also stream them if you have a Foxtel iQ subscription, either via the Foxtel GO app or the ESPN app. The ESPN app allows you to watch all NHL games in the 2023/24 season, even ones that aren't screened on its TV channels. To access, you need to create an ESPN account, then connect Foxtel through it. Once you're done, head to schedule and replays, select hockey as a sport and the games should be available there.

Kayo subscribers also get access to content from ESPN, so they will be able to stream the NHL.

A Kayo One subscription costs $25 a month and gets you access to only 1 screen at a time. A Basic Kayo subscription is $35 a month and enables you to watch on 2 screens. A 7-day free trial is available for new customers. Kayo introduced 4K in February 2024 to its Basic plan. There's no contract involved so you can cancel your subscription at any time. The subscriptions include access to 4k content live and on demand, a range of special features and more than 50 sports.

Watch NHL on Fetch TV

ESPN is also available in the Vibe channel pack from Fetch TV, which costs only $6 a month, or the Ultimate pack, which is $20 a month. However, the total price of your subscription depends on whether you purchase a Fetch TV box outright or get it through a broadband provider. The overall price will be dramatically more if you're starting from scratch.

Subscribers to Fetch also get access to the Watch ESPN app, allowing you to watch games through there. If you sign into the ESPN app using your Fetch details, you can watch all the HNL games this season on there as well.

Watch NHL on NHL.TV

Despite not being available for a couple of season in Australia, NHL.TV is available again in Australia for the 2023/24 season. NHL.TV is listing Australia as country where the service is available. It costs $14.99 a month, or you can subscribe for the whole season for $99.99.

Blackout restrictions may apply to games that appear on an NHL partner network in Australia, but there's no list of which specific games if any that might apply to.

NHL.TV is available on Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, iOS and Android devices and via PC/Mac on web browsers. AirPlay and Chromecast streaming is also available.
