Since November 2022, when Finder last conducted this survey, you can see how a lot of services have lost subscribers, while some have only grown by a very small amount. Prime Video and Disney Plus have lost the most subscribers over that time, while Kayo and YouTube Premium gained the most.

Australians spend an average of 15.4 hours each week streaming. And when we have it, we reckon it's worth it – 76% of Australians believe they're getting good value from their streaming services. On average, Australians are paying about $45 a month to use streaming services.

The younger you are, the more you tend to use streaming services. 95% of generation Z use streaming services. Meanwhile, 89% of generation Y and 75% of generation X use them. It seems like streaming is not okay for boomers, as only 55% of them have a streaming service.

Despite recent crackdowns on password sharing, the most high profile of which was from Netflix, 41% of respondents admitted they share a password for a streaming service with a friend or family member living in another residence – the equivalent of about 10.6 million people.

31% of Australians share the password for their Netflix account, the highest of any streaming service. Disney Plus has the second most freeloaders (16%), followed by Stan (11%) and Prime Video (10%).

Generation Z might get a bad rap for wasting money, but one thing we can't accuse them of is paying for unnecessary streaming services. Just over three-quarters (76%) use a service that they don't pay for. At the other end of the spectrum, baby boomers are the most likely to pay for their own streaming services, with only 17% saying they mooch off others.

Those in Victoria are the most likely to use someone else's account (46%), with Western Australia coming in second (43%).
