Fancy a healthy portion of British telly? BritBox has what you need. As the name suggests, BritBox is a streaming service that specialises in British entertainment, with a focus on TV series.

A joint venture between the 2 largest networks in the UK – BBC and ITV – the platform hosts previous and current seasons of popular TV shows from the UK, including some you won't be able to find anywhere else.

The library features fan favourites like Vera, Line of Duty and Midsomer Murders. With fresh content added every month, you won't run out of stuff to watch anytime soon.

How much does BritBox cost?

BritBox offers 2 types of plans – monthly and annual. You can get access to the British streaming platform for $9.99 a month or save with an annual subscription, priced at $99.99 a year.

In January 2024, BritBox increased their monthly price from $8.99 a month. A price rise came for the annual package too and from 22 February 2024 it costs $99.99. Although a price rise for the latter, this is still a discount on taking the monthly subscription for a 12 month period.

Does BritBox have a free trial?

Yes. The service offers a 7-day free trial, so you can sign up and enjoy all the British TV you can handle completely free for a week.

Just make sure to cancel your subscription before the trial is up if you decide the service isn't for you. That way, you won't be billed.

What can I watch on BritBox?

From mysteries and histories to beloved classics and intriguing new titles express from the UK, BritBox has a wide collection of television series. You can binge beloved shows like Luther, Mr Bean and Blackadder.

Or, discover new series straight from the UK like The Tower, Six Four and The Curse. BritBox offers original productions too – Hope Street, A Confession, Crime and and Father Brown spin-off Sister Boniface Mysteries among others.

The platform also hosts plenty of lifestyle and documentary series, such as Martin Compston's Scottish Fling, The Great British Sewing Bee and The Great Pottery Throw Down, to only name a few.

If you love movies, a small selection of films are streaming on BritBox as well.

BritBox compatible devices

You can watch BritBox on your laptop/PC or download the app to your favourite device to watch on the go or on your TV. Here are all the devices BritBox is compatible with:

  • PC/Mac
  • Android, iOS smartphones and tablets
  • Android TV
  • Telstra TV
  • Fetch TV
  • Roku
  • Samsung smart TVs
  • LG smart TVs
  • Hisense TVs
  • Apple TV
  • Chromecast/AirPlay

You can register up to 4 devices with your BritBox account.

BritBox is also able via Prime Video Channels. If you're a subscriber to Prime Video, you can add a BritBox subscription to it and watch via all the devices compatible to Prime Video. Note that you need to pay for BritBox on top of your Prime Video subscription, which would total $19.98 a month.

Additionally, subscribing via Prime Video Channels means you'll only be able to watch BritBox content via Prime Video, not on the separate BritBox website or app. Similarly, BritBox is available as part of Apple TV Channels and if you subscribe via there, you will also only be able to watch BritBox content via there and not on BritBox's website or standalone apps.

BritBox features

BritBox is pretty basic in terms of features. The interface is user-friendly and easy to navigate. The search function is intuitive and you can set up parental controls and closed captions. The service also recommends similar shows based on the page you are on. You won't have to sit through any ads while you binge.

On the other hand, the platform doesn't offer multiple profiles and the only way you can download content for offline viewing is if you've subscribed to BritBox via Apple TV Channels. As for video quality, some titles are available in 4K if you have a compatible device (Samsung smart TV, Telstra TV 4700 or Roku), or you watch via Prime Video channels. The rest are HD or SD quality. Audio descriptions aren't available.

Should I get BritBox?

If you love British telly, it may be a good choice. The service is a great resource for TV enthusiasts who want to rediscover classic series or find something new to watch from the UK. There's plenty of content available, from dramas to comedies. If you're into British detective shows, you're more than covered.

Beyond that, if you're only interested in a few British shows, it may not be worth it for the long term. You may just want to dip in and dip out depending when a show is on the service.

Don't forget, the platform comes with a 7-day free trial, so you can test it out to decide if you want to keep it in the long run.
