Stream Kayo FREE for 7 days
Although only having been around since 2018, Kayo has set the bar in the Australian sports streaming market. It allows users to get all the sports channels from Foxtel without the additional non-sports content or a fixed contract. Streaming service Stan launched Stan Sport in February 2021. So let's break down Kayo vs Stan Sport as we compare the 2 services.
Kayo vs Stan Sport: Key differences
What sports are on Kayo and Stan Sport?
Kayo boasts more than 50 sports for you to choose from. It features the likes of the NRL, AFL, cricket, F1, Super Netball, NBL and MotoGP as well as the NBA, NFL, NHL and Major League Baseball.
Stan meanwhile is focused predominantly on rugby union, football, grand slam tennis and motorsport.
If you are a staunch rugby union fan, you will need to strongly consider Stan Sport. No one can match Stan Sport for rugby, with the platform boasting international Test matches, Super Rugby, Bledisloe Cup and The Rugby Championship among others.
When it comes to tennis, Stan has broadcast rights for the 4 majors: Wimbledon, the French Open, the US Open and the Australian Open.
On the football front, Stan Sport meanwhile has the following UEFA tournaments: Champions League, Europa League, Europa Conference League and Super Cup. If you're looking for the English Premier League, you need to subscribe to Optus Sport.
Kayo used to compete with Stan on the tennis, rugby union and football front, but it no longer has any of those sports after its partnership with beIN SPORTS ended.
Kayo vs Stan Sport: How much do they cost?
When it comes to price, there are some key differences between them. Stan Sport costs $15 a month. Yet it must be an add-on to a current regular Stan subscription. Stan costs between $12 and $21 a month, so Stan Sport is actually $27 to $36 a month.
Everything on Kayo is streamed in HD and it has 3 pricing models. The Kayo One package is $25 a month for only 1 device at a time. There's a Basic package for $35 a month and 2 devices to stream on. There is also a Premium package for $35 a month, which gives you an additional stream for a total of 3.
Considering the similarities across the pricing points, Kayo's vastly superior library of new and historic content gives it a clear edge here.
Kayo vs Stan Sport: Free trial
Neither service offers a free trial. The regular Stan offers a 30-day free trial to check it all out, but there is no free trial for Stan Sport.
However, there is a way to get some of Kayo and Stan Sport's content for free. There is Kayo Freebies, which allows Aussies to catch certain events for free such as Supercars, WSL surfing and NBL. You don't need to subscribe to Kayo to obtain this, you can just sign up and get access to the events offered for free.
Since Stan Sport and the Nine Network are owned by the same company, occasionally some sport on Stan is shown for free on Nine. For example, All Wallabies home games and games against New Zealand will be shown live on free-to-air television on the Nine Network. The Nine Network also broadcasts some action from the tennis Grand Slams, though you won't get to choose what matches to view.

Kayo vs Stan Sport: Features
Kayo has a range of unique special features other platforms can't match. No Spoilers, Interactive Stats, Kayo Minis and SplitView, which lets you watch 4 sports at once, are among the options.
Stan Sport has the advantage with picture quality, offering some sport in 4K Ultra HD.
Is Kayo or Stan Sport better?
Kayo appears to be well set in the marketplace. Its range of sports, pricing point and features have all gone down well with sports fans.
Stan Sport feels a little costly in comparison given the content it offers. It only has a narrow range of sports on offer.
Kayo has the advantage over Stan in ease and accessibility of signing up, as you can sign up direct. That's unlike Stan Sport, where you need to sign up with Stan first before adding on the sports streaming service.
Both have a similar prices, but with Stan Sport, you're getting extra entertainment content on Stan too. While that could be seen as a bonus, you're most likely signing up to Stan Sport to watch sport, not to watch TV shows and movies.
Stan Sport has the edge in picture quality, offering 4K content on selected matches. It is also available on more devices.
But fans of a variety of live and timeless sports content will be best served by Kayo.
