It's time to ditch the animal-derived ingredients!
Years ago, it would've been hard to source vegan makeup. The rise in popularity of veganism means an increase in exclusively vegan brands. But there are also existing brands converting to the new lifestyle.
Keen to switch to a vegan makeup routine but unsure of where to start?
You can browse through 100% vegan brands, as well as those that carry vegan products (but aren't fully converted).
If you're interested, you can check out our comprehensive list of cruelty-free beauty brands but just keep in mind that "cruelty-free" is not the same as vegan.
These brands are 100% Vegan:
INIKA Organic
Inika is a 100% natural beauty brand committed to using only the finest botanicals and minerals. The founders recognised a gap in the market for organic and natural makeup. Not only are the products free from toxins and cruelty, but they're also vegan.
Inika's philosophy is to create high performing makeup products that just so happen to be healthy for you and your skin. Some of the most popular products (that have also won awards) include the Long Lash Mascara and the BB cream.
Where to buy:
- Adore Beauty
- Nourished Life
- Myer
KVD Vegan Beauty
In early 2020, Kat Von D Beauty became KVD Vegan Beauty and it's now no longer owned by the makeup mogul.
No matter the finer details, KVD Vegan Beauty is dedicated to creating high-performance makeup that is cruelty-free and 100% vegan. Not only does the brand support the environment, but KVD Vegan Beauty also encourages self-expression for all kinds of people.
What product belongs on your shopping list? Without a doubt, the best-selling Tattoo Liner.
Where to buy:
Mecca Max
Mecca Max, Mecca's in-house brand, wasn't 100% vegan from the beginning. In mid 2018, the affordable beauty brand made the switch and committed to producing products that were 100% vegan and cruelty free.
These products are designed for experimentation, allowing you to have fun with makeup. And with the affordable price tag, how can you say no? One of our personal favourites includes the Life Proof Cream Concealer.
Where to buy:
Cover FX
Cover FX follows a number of key principles. The products must be free from inflammatory ingredients and packed with vitamins, emollients and redness reducers – it's a great brand if you have sensitive skin.
Cover FX is also committed to 100% vegan beauty, and there's a huge variety of products available. If you're keen to try something from the brand, we recommend the popular Power Play foundation.
Where to buy:
e.l.f Cosmetics
e.l.f Cosmetics wants you to look good and feel good at the same time. That's why the brand is fully committed to being 100% vegan and cruelty free. There's no guilt needed when using this affordable beauty brand.
The Poreless Putty Primer is one of the brand's most popular items and it's been reviewed (and loved) by makeup mogul Jeffree Star.
Where to buy:
These stores have Vegan products available:
The Body Shop
While The Body Shop is strictly cruelty-free, it isn't committed to 100% vegan. Although, the brand understands the market demand for vegan makeup.
There's a huge selection of makeup items that are made free from animal by-products, like the smoothing Fresh Nude Foundation or the colourful Lip Juicer.
Where to buy:
- The Body Shop
100% Pure
100% Pure promises to provide you with 100% natural and organic cosmetics. While not all the items are vegan, they are still good for your skin.
One of the best-selling items on Nourished Life is the Pomegranate lipstick. This is just one of the many examples where the makeup brand uses antioxidant-packed fruit pigments to produce coloured cosmetics.
Where to buy:
- 100% Pure
- Nourished Life
Charlotte Tilbury
Charlotte Tilbury is a beauty brand with a focus on luxury. It's hard to resist the gorgeous packaging. While there's no testing on animals, not all of the products are vegan.
However, there is a great selection of Charlotte Tilbury vegan makeup. If you're after a high quality and vegan-friendly formula, you need to try the Matte Revolution lipsticks or the Cheek to Chic in the iconic Pillow Talk shade.
Where to buy:
Lush
Lush is a brand that's synonymous with fresh cosmetics and ethical buying. While the products are 100% cruelty free and vegetarian, only a select few are vegan.
Alongside the array of Lush's beauty products, the vegan makeup section is pretty exciting. We recommend checking out all the different makeup brushes and the beautiful Skin Tints.
Tarte
While Tarte is dedicated to 100% cruelty-free, not all of the products are vegan. You can check out the makeup selection here and luckily, the iconic and best-selling Shape Tape formula is included. If you're still yet to try something from the brand, this has to be it!
Unfortunately, Tarte can't guarantee that any ingredients or products are produced in an allergen free environment. That's why the products are labelled as vegan-friendly, rather than vegan.
