Where to buy the Apple iPhone 16 in Australia
The Apple iPhone 16 range is now available to pre-order in Australia - and it's actually cheaper than its predecessor.
This week, Apple lifted the lid on 4 new iPhones: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone Pro Max.
Boasting improved cameras, a faster A18 chipset and - after an October software update - Apple Intelligence, they definitely bring some enticing new features to the table.
If you're planning to buy the phone outright, there are plenty of retail options to choose from including Amazon, JB Hi-Fi, eBay, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys, the Apple Store and Big W.

How much does the iPhone 16 cost?
Presumably in response to the ongoing cost of living crisis, Apple has done the unthinkable and shaved the price of its new iPhone range compared to last year's models.
The iPhone 16 range starts at $1,399. That's $100 less than the cheapest iPhone 15 sold for at launch.
The top-of-the-range 1TB Pro Max model is also $50 cheaper this year with an RRP of $2,849.

iPhone 16 specifications
The main differences can be found in the camera sensors, processor and battery. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max now come with two 48-megapixel cameras.
The Pro and Pro Max models are also slightly larger this year, measuring 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches (up from 6.2 and 6.7, respectively.)
Apple is also bringing Apple Intelligence to its new iPhone range. As its name implies, this is an AI tool that has been designed to make day-to-day tasks easier. Examples include inbuilt image generation, automated summaries of phone recordings and the ability to quickly locate photos in your library with a description.

Which version should you buy?
For power users, we think the iPhone 16 Pro 256GB provides the best bang-for-buck overall. It comes with all the same high-end features as the Pro Max, including the A18 Pro chip, but is up to $300 less expensive.
If you're all about bigger screens, the iPhone 16 Plus 256GB model is also a sensible bet with an RRP starting at $1,599.
Budget shoppers are probably better off looking for a discounted iPhone 14 which remains an exceptionally powerful phone. You can also expect the iPhone 15 to receive a significant price drop in the months ahead.
